CHA Winter 2012 Booth Tour!

I can't believe the show is finally here! I've been working on booth set up for 3 long days and you will see that it was worth all of the hard work of so many people! We are already getting incredible feedback and we hope you love our Tropical Garden :)

We have been growing a lot lately! Adding Blue Moon Beads into our DCWV family, expanding our creative projects into off the page projects and home decor and especially growing in the aspect of trying to get MORE stacks into your hands as quickly as we can!

Wow oh wow. What a week! Getting all packed up today for Anaheim! I can't wait to get there and get going on our booth! It's going to be incredible and the anticipation is killing me! Who is excited to see what we have been up to?!

In the middle of Crazy Central which is my HOME right now, ;) I wanted to show you an adorable new product! Our new line "Domestic Bliss" from our DCWV Home team keeps surprising me with awesome new products! Check out these new wall art pieces which you PAINT!!!

These are new at Jo-Anns and should be out right now. It retails for $19.99 and comes with 2 BIG pieces which you can paint or color however you want! There is a little guide on the side of the packaging which suggests colors. Kind of like a paint by numbers for the wall. Wouldn't this be so cute to color with your husband or family for a new nursery? Or you can be like me and let you kids go wild and make their own room decorations :)

Lots of hard work! My little guy turned FIVE yesterday! I just can't believe it :)

And what can be cuter than a proud little boy?! I think this is such a fun project for kids and families!

Love this little birthday boy! Anyone have any tips on how to freeze a 5 year old? ;)

Be Mine Valentine Decoration

Another Monday is here! And today is just not any Monday, it is the Monday before CHA! Can you believe it is already here! I leave on Thursday for 3 full days of booth set up. And I'm not the first person getting there either. That just is a hint of how extremely creative and amazing our booth is this show! I can't wait to show you. I will be set with my camera and video camera so you will feel like you are right there with us. But there is still lots to do before leaving work for a week. And leaving your family! This week is jam packed but I can't wait to get to California and start feeling the excitement of a CHA show.

With all of the CHA reveals, we can't forget about Valentines Day! One of my favorite days to craft for. I created a darling decoration this weekend using our Be Mine Stack.

This is one of our stacks which will be available for all stores to purchase at the show! It is gorgeous and a timeless, classic, gorgeous Valentines line.

Look how pretty a scrap piece of wood can be! I found this new easel and have decided to craft something for it for each season. I had my husband cut me a scrap piece of wood leftover from a project. It is about 10 inches wide and 12 inches tall. I painted it and then sanded & stained it.

I used doilies and paper from the Be Mine Stack to make a 3D decoration. I folded the hearts in half and hot glued them down right on the folded part. I hand cut the hearts with pinking sheers because I didn't want them to be perfect! I love how it turned out. I painted the "love" but you could also add alphabet stickers instead. Something about Valentines and handmade things just make me smile :)

Hey everyone! Can't believe it's Thursday already! I leave for CHA in a week and today I am in Dallas, Texas at the Michaels Coorporate office working on a fun, secret project!! Dallas is my HOME SWEET HOME so anytime I get to come back here, I take it! Can't wait to tell you what I am doing here!! ;) ;) ;)

I have been getting lots of lots of questions from YOU asking about our new Chalkboard Stacks and what kinds of products work best on them. You will be able to find these Chalkboard Stacks at Michaels & Jo-Anns now and your independent retailers soon! They come in a variety of colors and sizes and are SO fun!

Check out this awesome page that Susan Stringfellow made with our Chalkboard Stack! She used watercolor pencils for this look. One of many mediums that can be used.

Love the detail on this page :)

I made a video demonstrating some techniques for you! Watch my video HERE to see some of my tips on what kinds of chalk products work best on our papers. Hopefully it will open up your creative mind as to what you can create with these papers!

I purchased all of these products at my local arts & crafts store but I'm sure you will be able to find all of them at any arts and crafts store. The chalk bistro markers are the Uchinda brand, they are my favorite I think!

12x24 Stack Wall Letter

Why hello there :) I'm back from a nice holiday weekend! I hope yours was the same. Gearing up for a crazy but very exciting week! Can you feel the pre-CHA buzz in the air? I sure do :)

I wanted to share a project that will be in our booth next week in Anaheim. I love how it turned out!

I made this "M" for my office from a cardboard box!! Yes, believe it :)

Love the scallop ruffles the most...and the burlap. Basically love it all :)

First, I sketched a large M on a cardboard box. I made mine about 11 inches wide and 22 inches tall. I cut it out with an Xacto knife. First I wrapped it with burlap. I purchased a roll of burlap at Michaels that was made to make a burlap garland. I used mine to wrap my letter :) I used hot glue to keep it down on the back. Once that was done, I used our big 12x24 printed stack to make the big green M on top of the burlap.

These 12x24 stacks are perfect for your cutting machines! I used my Sizzix Eclips and my Sure Cuts a Lot program to cut all of the scallops. Jessica at SVG Attic made me my own kit when I was on the hunt for a great border kit. HERE it is :) I cut lots of scallops out of the pink plaid paper from the same stack and added them to the top of my "M". I wish you could see it in person because the photos don't even do it justice!

Ooooh I have been excited to show you something!! Last month I told you that my boys wanted to move to the two empty bedrooms downstairs in the basement. The first thing I thought of was, "Another office upstairs!" So of course, I agreed ;) So right in the middle of the holidays {great timing} we made the move. It's been a little bit of work getting everything set, but I'm all done!

It is soooo nice to have a separate computer office from my craft office. For this girl who works from home and who's computer work is getting greater and greater, it's been a necessity! The only stacks you will find in this room are stacks which are waiting for a video to be made....no peeking! ;)

I love the clean look of the white furniture, everything is from Ikea. As soon as I started using my computer in there, I decided I needing some kind of protection for the desk. I didn't want it to automatically get scratches from my computer. Guess what I used...

Cork! This is from DCWV Home's new "Domestic Bliss" line which is available at Jo-Anns. This piece is $14.99 but you will have to check out all of the other items in the line, so cute! The cork is self adhesive and removable which means it is not going to damage my pretty desk!

And it's one big coaster for my daily Diet Cokes ;) Can't hurt, right?! My new office started my 2012 off right... organized & productive.

Hello again! So glad to have you back on the blog today :) I hope everyone had a great weekend! I don't know about where you live...but here in Utah we are having a weird winter! No snow so far at my house. Which is great in some ways but dreadful in others! No snowmen, no Ugg boots, no snowmobiling, no snowy drives. But we have had lots of fun playing outside and enjoying the sun...wondering in the back of my mind if and when that beautiful white stuff will come.

This gorgeous weather automatically reminds me of spring! One of the big colors for this spring is going to be {coral} which I LOVE! When I saw our new Coral Couture Stack I knew that our design team was spot on with a current trend! Check out some great photos I found on Pinterest....

And look how perfect our new stacks coordinates!

I am pretty much OBSESSED with this stack!!! In love for sure :)

I wanted to share a fun page that I made using the Coral Couture Stack. The colors just make the whole page sparkle! This is my darling next door neighbor who my 4 year old thinks he will marry someday! She got a cat named "Kitty" for her 3rd birthday and as you can tell, she is smitten :)

I love how their eyes match! Kitty is such a good sport ;)

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week!

Things are in major-100% high gear as the DCWV team prepares for CHA! So much to do, and our crates will be ready to ship on Friday! You will be blown away when you see what we did with our booth. I am not responsible for any damaged keyboards from drool or spilt drinks injured by excitement :) Yes, it's gonna be that awesome!

I have been waiting and waiting forever it seems like for these two lines to come out! You really do need to watch THIS VIDEO to see these fun, gorgeous goodies!

These stationary lines are available at Stein Mart nationwide. I LOVE Stein Mart! If you have never been to one, it is kind of like an upscale T.J. Maxx. Great quality items too! Check HERE for a location near you :)

I used the gorgeous Winter Magic Stack which is available at Jo-Anns still. It is so classy and beautiful. Perfect shades of blue. They worked great with my snow photos!

The photos look a little dark here but they are cute in real life :) Doesn't these prints just scream winter?!

I added the silver paper from the Dazzle Stack. Love that solid glitter, I can't stop touching it!

So there you have it! January's Template Challenge for all of my favorite Stack-a-holics. Create a layout from the sketch using one of our DCWV or Recollections Stacks. Holiday Cookie Swap Recipes

Heeeey everyone! I hope everyone had a great holiday! We had a wonderful time here at my house. My little guys were so good and extremely grateful to Santa for spoiling them :) And we even cut back this year! I am grateful for good little guys :) Lots of time with family and we had a great holiday.

Hope yours was the same :)

It is the last night of my holiday break! I am ready to start work tomorrow, all geared up for LOTS of CHA preperations! CHA-Winter always seems to sneak up on us since it's in January...but our booth is going to be incredible! Even my hubby has been in on the preparations, so fun :)

I am excited to share a fun post with you. No paper involved lol. Actually our Cookie Swap Cookbooks are covered in DCWV paper but I didn't get a picture :) Whenever I hear my boss telling someone about our blog he always mentions, "And we share recipes too!" lol :) So I know he is good with me posting these pictures and recipes!

I host a Holiday Cookie Swap for some of my neighbors. I have the BEST neighbors and friends by the way :) Our neighborhood is a blast! This was my 5th year doing the Cookie Swap since I have been in the neighborhood going on 6 years. It is so much fun to get together and try new recipes.

12 of us come and bring 3 dozen cookies each. They unload their cookies on to their spot on the counter. Then they reload 3 of each cookie back onto their platter.

So everyone goes home with 3 cookies, 12 different kids! I pretty much don't cook dinner on cookie swap night and we just pig out. No lie :)

Don't these look SO good! My favorites this year were the Smore Cookies & the Chocolate Mint Tassies. But really, there wasn't a bad one in the bunch!

I wanted to share the recipes this year! I gather the recipes, print little books and use my cute Christmas Stack of the year and make a cover. It's fun to look back on the last 5 years and see each of our holiday stacks featured on a cover of the cookbook. You can print these out and try them yourselves. The diet starts after New Years right?? ;)

Wall Art Wednesday: New Sienna Line @ Target

Only a few days left until Christmas! Do you have everything ready?! I wanted to share with you a quick idea if you need a last minute gift for someone...

Here is what I did for a friend who is a HUGE Starbucks fan ;) I got a gift card and asked for an extra cup, lid and straw. I put the gift card in the cup and filled it with paper strips that I curled with the straight edge of my scissors. You know how you curl curling ribbon on gifts? You can curl paper strips the same way :) I think the gift will be a hit!

DCWV Christmas Party

I love sharing posts like this! It makes me so happy to share a little taste of what it's like to be part of the DCWV Family :) You really can't explain the kind of company that we work for, other than it really is like a family! We had a great time at our annual Christmas Party on Friday. There are so many little details that go into making the night so special :)

When we arrive at the party, we get to sit and take a formal photo with our guest. But we always sneak in and get a group shot too ;) Some of my great friends & co-workers who I adore.

We start off with an INCREDIBLE meal! It was so yummy I made myself sick eating so much, lol! A traditional holiday meal served at it's best :)

Jordan, (Our "Mac Man" as I like to call him) and his cute wife. I swear they just LOOK ALIKE!

Love it :)

Valerie, HR Director, the woman in charge of the whole event, happily enjoying herself :)

Our SANTA!!! Deos he look familiar to anyone? ;) Darin is the best MC and a highlight of the night.

We played lots of "Minute to Win It" Games after dinner for prizes & cash...I guess you have to have an incentive to get up and make yourself look silly ;)

Pressure!!

Watching the games...we have 175 employees at DCWV! With everyone bringing a guest, that makes one big party!

I love how VP of Sales Jeremy stole a game afterwards to try and master it...totally fits his personality :)

Our company founders Mike & Nancy and Gary (CFO) receiving their gift from us, a donation in their behalf to a food bank who's warehouse neighbors ours in Provo.

Mike gave a very heartfelt speech which reminded me why I love to work for this company.

This beautiful woman, Nancy Hill, is the one who started it all! She is an incredible woman who facinates me with her knowledge and creatvity. I admire her so much and am so grateful she brought me into the DCW Family almost 8 years ago! One of the greatest blessings in my life :)

Disney Magic!

Hey everyone! Glad to see you back here today! Hope you are having a great week!!

I told you on Monday that I would tell you more about my big vacation! It really was a magical trip. My boys were the perfect ages to enjoy everything that the Disney Wonder had to offer! Best part, they spent at least 4 hours a day in the Kids Program which was incredible! Making Flubber, cooking class, Toy Story Boot Camp...my boys were in heaven. And I got to work on my tan ;)

We stopped at Puerto Vallarta and had 2 days in Cabo San Lucas. We loved both stops! We fell in love with Cabo and hope to return soon. And PV was incredible because of our dolphin swim!!

{btw...this little girl lost her little camera on the ship so all the pictures I am showing are photos that I bought the rights to. Worth every penny :) }

Crossed this off my bucket list!! Loved that I got to do it with my entire family :)

And what would a Disney Trip be without some characters??!

Pirate Night was the BEST :) Fireworks off the top of the boat!

I knew that I wanted to make some Disney autograph books for my boys. That is such a fun part of a Disney trip! And the characters were ALL OVER the boat, way more than at Disney Parks.

I used the Great Vacation Stack which I love! For the covers and used 5x7 flat canvases. I used Mod Podge to get the paper down and the Mickey ears. When I Mod Podged over the top I sprinkled a little glitter before it dried. Hand painted their names and added some buttons. The pages are just cardstock cut down to 4x6.

Easy Christmas Card

Hey everyone!

Some of you may know, but I was totally MIA all last week! The blog posted automatically so you had no idea huh? ;) I enjoyed a wonderful Disney Cruise with my entire family! It was so much fun...I will tell you more about it on Wednesday :)

I wanted to share a quick EASY Christmas card that you could make...if you haven't even thought about making cards yet...because time is running out!

I used the awesome Christmas & Winter Stack that is out right now. Kinda my "go-to" stack this season!

A few different patterned papers, a punch and some ribbon and that's it! I know there are lots of incredibly detailed cards out there right now. But sometimes, simple is better when you are making a handful at a time! I hope each of you do something this season to put a little handmade love into your holidays. Cards, tags...anything! I am making LOTS this year :)

Hello my blogging friends! TGIF! Again! Is it me or all these weeks just flying by?

I am loving December and all of the great holiday ideas out there! I saw one that I knew I wanted to do this year at my house.

Photo gift tags! How stinkin' smart is this?? Simply wrap your presents in newspaper. Tie it with a pretty ribbon. And make a simple tag with the recipients photo. That's it!

I used the Merry Christmas Stack & Embellishments for this tag. I will for sure be doing this on my gifts this year! A great way to personalize Christmas.

Winter Magic Circle Ornament

Why hello there! Did everyone have a great weekend? We are getting into that insane time of the year when we have tons and tons of stuff going on. I hope you are having some time to relax and get some crafting done :)

Have you seen the new Winter Magic line at Jo-Ann's right now? It's sooo pretty!! The best blue and silver prints...It is 100% beautiful and classic.

I started making an ornament for my tree. I have seen some really pretty blue and silver Christmas trees and thought this stack would make a gorgeous ornament. I wanted to use some scrap pieces because I didn't want to cut into my beautiful pack if I didn't have to!! I had a matching Box of Cards so look what I did.

I cut a few of the cards in half to have the perfect size for my project. The backs of the cards I put in a pile to use for photo matting or even my grocery list that I need to write down :)

I put the pieces on a Cricut mat and cut out circles. My first circle was 4 inches. The next was 3 1/2 inches. The next was 3 inches. You get it :) All the way down to a 1 inch circle.

I inked the edges and used some 3D foam adhesive squares to put it all together. I love the dimension of it....which you really can't see from the photo! The button & bakers twine was the perfect addition to the ornament. And I used some May Arts ribbon as the ornament hanger. I love how it turned out!

I used the incredible new Dazzle Stack which is at Jo-Ann's stores right now. You seriously have to SEE this paper to believe it! I have never seen paper sparkle like this. The texture is so fun!

Here is my layout!

I had horizontal photos so I had to switch up the title a little bit. But I think I did pretty good sticking with the sketch!!

For the pearl pins, I used old straight back pins and put 2 half pearls back to back to make my own :) And I LOVE that May Arts Ribbon!

"Cookie Time" is the title of this page. My mom didn't want to be called "Grandma" so she is Cookie instead :) And she's just as sweet too ;) As you can see in these photos, she absolutely adores her 4 grandchildren! She gets up early with them and plays board games on the floor while Mommy & Daddy sleep in. She is pretty much amazing and we love her!

Rolled Paper Christmas Tree Decoration

Hello my friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Mine couldn't have been better...except maybe I could have done without my little guy catching a bad cough. But if that's the only thing I can complain about then that makes me pretty darn lucky :)

I am SO ready to start posting Christmas projects! I love this time of year and try and hold off my Christmas posts until after Thanksgiving. Which is kinda hard since I have had holiday paper in my possession for a couple months!

For today's project, I used the new Christmas & Winter Stack at Jo-Ann's. This is one of the great 180 sheet stacks which is a killer deal! If you love a traditional paper stack, you will LOVE this! And the paper in this stack works great with this project because the thinner paper is really easy to roll :)

This is what I created on my Sunday afternoon at home :) I love how it turned out and it looks perfect on my kitchen table!

I painted a scrap piece of wood and created my tree on that. But you could easily do this on a canvas or even a piece of cardstock that you frame and keep the glass out.

To create on wood: Paint your scrap wood & apply a thin layer of Mod Podge over it. Let it dry. Add your tree trunk paper piece and apply another thin layer of Mod Podge. Sprinkle a little glitter while Mod Podge is still wet. Let dry. Start rolled paper pieces.

HINT* I have discovered Mod Podge Hard Coat which I love! It doesn't leave any kind of sticky residue feeling afterwards. I have never been a Mod Podge Expert but I am always getting better, practice makes perfect :)

I rolled pieces of paper around a pencil, hot glued the ends and slipped the pencil out. I went down in lengths every 1/2 inch to make the tree shape. My smallest piece is 1/2 inch wide and my widest is 10 1/2 inches. I hot glued the rolls to the wood. Added some buttons, ribbon and a cute bird that I hand cut out. I love how it turned out and it will for sure come out every holiday at my house :)

I am grateful for so many things in my life. But among the things high on my list is a job that I adore at DCWV, bosses that I respect and want to work hard for, co-workers who have become my family, and a husband who supports me in my choice to have a career and a family too.

Thanksgiving Eve

It's Thanksgiving Eve 2011! I'm sure a lot of you are busy making lots of food in preparation for tomorrow. I am simply on "Pie Patrol" which is my specialty! This morning I will be making an apple crumb pie and a pumpkin pie from scratch. There is something about making pies...it makes me feel very domestic :) I love it!

I use the Pioneer Woman's Pie Crust Recipe which CANNOT be beat! I promise! It's worth the extra effort, the crust flakes in your mouth!

HERE is my Apple Crumb Pie Recipe. I double the topping so it's nice and crumby :)

And you can't beat the classic Libby's Pumpkin Pie Recipe on the side of the pumpkin puree can, right!?

Before I begin my Thanksgiving Break, I wanted to share one least paper project :) Because I am just not ready to put all of this year's fun autumn & harvest paper away!

Simply Autumn is still available at Michaels Stores. I have already gone through 2 of these stacks! I absolutely love it!! I wanted to make something that I could pull out year after year that shows the things that my boys are thankful for.

So I came up with this Thanksgiving Door Hanger. My boys love anything that they can hang on their bedroom door nob. Random boys :) For the base, I used the back chipboard piece from a random stack that I had on hand. I cut it down to 4 1/2 inches x 9 inches. I traced a cup and cut it out for the door nob hole. Covered it with some cute paper....

Added a fun bow & a Post It Note Pad. I decorated the first piece with "Troy is Thankful For..."

Each page my son can write something that he is thankful for. I love seeing his nice handwriting! Someone taught him well ;) And of course, I added the date once he was done so we could pull it out next year and continue to add to the list. I think this will be fun to use every year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow! I have so much to be grateful for and I try to live my life grateful each and every day. But it's so wonderful to have a special day where we can show our gratitude and recognize our many, many blessings. I hope each of you have a wonderful day :)

Collage Musings Frame

Hey everyone! Can you believe it's the week of Thanksgiving?! This is my favorite holiday of the year...with Christmas a quick 2nd place :) We alternate years with our families so this year we get to go to my parents with my family which makes the holiday perfect to me :) I will have another last minute Thanksgiving craft for you on Wednesday!

I wanted to show you a great gift idea using our stack, Collage Musings. Handmade gifts are the only way to go! Gifts like this one are easy, inexpensive and right from the heart :)

I purchased a $3 frame from my local superstore. I cut down a piece of patterned paper to 5x7 and framed it IN FRONT of the glass. Then I punched our hearts with a heart punch and folded them in half. Used some strong liquid glue and put the glue only on the crease of the fold so they hearts stayed 3 dimensional. That was it!

This could easily be personalized with a name, an anniversary date or birthday. That is the great thing about handmade gifts. You can personalize anything as you create it! I hope this project gets your ideas flowing and you begin to think what you can create for people that you love this holiday season.

Mixed Media Fun

Oh this is going to be a happy post. I can just tell :)

While I was on the Michaels Cruise last month, I had to the chance to take some classes that really opened my eyes to some new forms of crafting. One of these classes was from Kathy Kromer of Michaels who is a an amazing artist and taught us about Mixed Media Art.

Definition:

Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work

So basically...a piece of art that incorporates lots of "stuff". Paint, ink, scrapbook paper, ribbon, buttons, basically ANYTHING :) Oh and glitter never hurt anything either!

Here are a few pieces that I found on Pinetrest. I love how they used scrapbook paper to help capture the mood of their art.

These two were painted by Christy Tomlinson, a popular mixed media artist in the craft industry. I would love to sit in her studio and paint with her for a day :)

So in our class, Kathy gave us very little guidance...something that is usually hard for me!

We sat down and saw a canvas, brushes, paint, Liquidex Gel Medium...

An awesome stack...Retro Collage, which was perfect for this project...

And 2 photos of Kathy's Aunt Martha.

Aunt Martha was quite the woman...lol. We heard all about her and she was pretty darn funny. We used one of the photos on our canvas and the other we cut up and used parts of her dress, collar, glasses for templates. Aunt Martha loved to give advice...

And this is what she said to me! "Be Where Your Feet Are" Make sure your head is not wondering in a moment with your family. Make sure your head is connected to work during my work hours. BE where my feet are. This is always my struggle...but I'm always getting better at it.

When I sat down with my supplies I thought, "What in the world am I doing." And then I just went at it! It was so fun to do something new with our paper. It was so fun to feel like an artist! I mean...like a "paint and brushes" kinda artist :) Cause paper crafters are artists 100%!

It has been fun to try something new with our papers. It has inspired me to create more with our papers and paints and sparkly goodies :) I love that about our love of crafting. It is always evolving and growing! Our creativity is always surprising us.

Whimsy Gift Box with Magnets

Hey guys! Thank you for all of your birthday wishes! You are too sweet to me :) I had a great day and weekend and I believe you when you tell me that 30 is just the beginning!

I wanted to show you another gift idea that you could make for friends or loved ones this holiday. I used the Whimsy Stack which has been around for a couple of years. I love how we are DCWV are always ahead of the trend because 2 years later, this stack is right on with other lines that are out there!

The colors in the Whimsy Stack are gorgeous and I love the little owls, bunnies and birds.

First off, I covered the lid of a Altoids box. You could use an empty mint container and paint the outside of it to cover up the packaging. Or you can buy empty ones HERE. I used Mod Podge to glue down the paper, inked the edges and then applied another coat of Mod Podge.

When you open up the box you have 3 little coordinating magnets. I covered old game pieces or you can use some cut down wood scraps. I applied the paper to the game pieces in the same process as the cover. Mod Podge, ink, Mod Podge.

Added a magnet to the back of and there you have it! They are fun because the stick to the inside of the tin. You could easily tie a ribbon around the container and add a little tag.

I will be making a few sets of these for some neighbors but I think I will use some of our new Christmas papers. What do ya think?

Thanksgiving Place Cards

Why hello there my friends! Back for another Friday, I see...they just seem to fly by! I hope everyone had a great week. Today I turn the big 3-0! On 11-11-11. It's for sure going to be my lucky, lucky year I think :) Going to have a great weekend of celebrating, I can't wait!! I haven't had any major depression on turning 30...I pretty much think I have quite the life to show for 30 years and I feel extremely grateful! I am expecting 40 & 50 to be much harder birthdays to handle ;-) Or am I wrong?

I had a lot of fun creating this project! I used the new Harvest Gathering Stacks that are out right now. I used the Matstacks which were so handy.

I think these colors and designs are just beautiful! The gorgeous teal make me so happy :)

So here is my little guy! I made mine a place card holder for Thanksgiving Dinner. But he could easily just be a little decoration...all you would do would be change out the words on the sign. It is an empty toilet paper roll covered in paper. And the feathers are my little boy's hand prints traced and cut out onto the printed paper. It took 3 hand prints to get this look.

I am planning on making these with the kids on Thanksgiving Day and we will use them for place cards! Now just to remember to hold on to those empty rolls :)

Ok, I am all caught up on work so I am going to take the rest of the day off and start my celebrating right now!! Hello 30, can't wait to see what you have in store for me :)

Paper Bows!

About 6 months ago, a friend in the craft industry told me that paper bows were going to take over the paper flower craze. I was begining to see bows all over the fashion world, which is usually what drives the trends in the paper world. I love keeping up with trends all across the board since they all play off each other in the end. And bows are no exception!

I am loving all of the bows out there! They just make me happy! And I NEED some of these shoes or I may just not be able to live :)

I am seeing all kinds of great paper bows too!

Easy, Inexpensive La Creme Gift Idea!

Happy Monday, everyone!! Hope you had a fabulous weekend!! I pretty much did nothing but create things from Pinetrest all weekend, lol! It was AWESOME! Are y'all loving Pinetrest as much as I am!?

I have the cutest, easiest gift idea to show you today! Cause you know, it's that time of the year when we are thinking what the heck we are giving our loved ones as gifts? :)

I used the forever classic La Creme Stack. I wonder how many of these babies I have gone thru in my crafting days. Plenty that's for sure! It is totally classic and has become one of our signature stacks!

I cut a piece of scrap wood down to my desired size. Mine is 1.5 inch thick, 5 1/4 x 8 1/4. I used some wood stain and painted a very "rough" coat on it just to darken the wood a bit. I wanted it to look kinda worn. Then at my local hardware store, I had them cut me a piece of thin sheet metal down to 5 x 7.5 inches. I cut a piece of La Creme paper down to the same size and Mod Podged it to the metal.

Then I added the metal sheet to the wood with some metal finishing nails. Added a photo and a magnet and that was that! You could bust out a ton of these on a Saturday and have tons of gifts done! I love the black and white paper on it too cause it will go with any decor.

I can't wait to show you some other great holiday gift ideas on the blog. This is my favorite time of year when it comes to crafting. I love giving gifts that I have created, I can't think of anything better!

Silhouette Advent Calendar

Hello friends! My name is Megan and I am the Marketing Assistant here at DCWV. Our friends at Silhouette contacted us to help showcase their product with ours—it was definitely an opportunity we couldn’t pass up!

One of the best parts was having the chance to complete this crafting assignment myself. For the past week, I have spent my time at work building the Silhouette Advent Calendar (http://silhouetteamerica.com/adventCalendar.aspx) using our products. I had so much fun! Not only was this product new to me, but the Silhouette was as well and I can’t believe we’ve waited this long to use it!

To begin, I gathered our Joann’s Christmas stacks and embellishments for 2011. This included our beautiful printed paper and the inspired solids that were made to go with them. I also had our tag stack and our book of coordinating sticker icons and letters. After selecting my papers, I went to work cutting out the boxes. Let me tell you—this was the easiest part of the process! Deciding which papers to use was harder than using the Silhouette software. Don’t get me wrong—I love a “worthy craft challenge,” but the ease of downloading the box templates and using the Silhouette made this project even more fun.

As I was cutting out the boxes, I did decide one thing. One tip I would offer to make the cutting out process even easier is to use the same type of paper throughout your project. I used lightweight printed paper and heavyweight cardstock—which meant some testing with the blade, and some re-do’s to get my boxes just right. Once I figured out the blade settings, I put all of the boxes together and in their appropriate spaces. Now it was time to embellish!

Because of the type of boxes you can cut out (decorative boxes or pull out drawers), you can add any amount of embellishments or none at all. I chose buttons, letters, numbers, name plates, ribbons, and rhinestones. After all, nothing says Christmas to me more than glitter!

When I was done, I stepped back to look at my work, brought my friends around to offer their creative advice…and decided it needed just a little something more.

After adding a bow, my project was complete! I can’t wait to fill the boxes with candy and special thoughts to help us keep the Christmas spirit all December long. This template was a little more challenging for me but I am always up for a challenge :) I used the new Basics 180 Sheet Stack that just came out this month at Jo-Anns.

It is SO cute and a definite must have for any Stack-a-holic! I wanted to use a photo of my little guy and his best buddies. They play together every Thursday which means "Wild Thursdays" at our house :)

I love all of the different prints in this stack! I also used the orange cardstock from the Creamy Stack. It is the smoothest paper you have ever touched!

I love the bright colors in this page. I cut out my little flourishes with my Cricut and the Accent Essentials Cartridge. But you could really use any kind of decorate design for that element of the page. This is a great layout to really make it yours!

I hope you have been enjoying all of the fun stuff on the blog this week! There has been so many things to share with you! I shared this on the blog last Halloween but we have a lot more followers this year so I thought I would show it again.

I have a 8x8 Halloween album that I update every year! My boys love to get it out and display it on our coffee table. They show it to everyone who comes over!

I started the book when my oldest boy celebrated his first Halloween and it's been fun to keep it updated.

Here is one of the layouts from 2006! Cute little monkey :) It is so fun to look back on the memories.

Well here is the layout that I just completed for 2011! I used the Ghosts & Goblins Stack and the matching embellishments. I adore those pumpkins!!! I keep the pages pretty simple. Our traditional photo with our next door neighbors. Halloween parade photo. Carving pumpkins. Costumes. I love documenting the same events year after year in the same album.

Another Halloween come and gone. Bring on Thanksgiving!! I have some fun projects planned for Thanksgiving so keep a look out :) Tomorrow I will post November's Stack-a-holic Template Challenge so I'll see you then :)

October Stack-a-holic Template Challenge Results

Hey friends! Hope you are having a great week! I am in major catch up mode, lol! That's usually how it goes after being away for 9 days! I hope you enjoyed the photos of the trip that I posted yesterday. If you didn't get a chance to see them, go look! It was incredible.

I am all set to show you my Top 10 entries from October's challenge! Once again, it was so hard to choose! I have had some people email and ask what I look for when choosing a Top 10. Basically, I see how well you followed the template, what new techniques you used, how the overall balance is and basically how inspiring it is! I try to choose a good variety of simple and elaborate layouts. And I try not to feature the same person two months in a row. I hope that helps a little :)

Michaels Crafting Cruise Recap!

Oh man. Get ready for a long post!!

I can't wait to share with you the photos from the Michaels Crafting Cruise that my co-worker/friend Amy Sorensen & I just went on! We had the amazing experience of representing DCWV on a boat full of hilarious, inspiring crafters and Michaels employees. I have taught at LOTS of events over the years but there has never been anything like this trip! We lost our camera somewhere on our adventures so these photos are from our phones & a friend (Thanks, Val!!)

Michael Duncan (Michaels Creative Director) & the one and only Jo Pearson (Michaels Legend!) at our Welcome Gathering - Amy & I at dinner. The food was soo good!

Perfect day to snorkel at Sapphire Beach at St. Thomas.

We rented a chair & umbrella for $5 for the day and that is exactly where we stayed :) Perfect beach day!

Even though we stopped at some incredible ports, there was LOTS of crafting going on anytime we weren't off the ship!!! We crafted on all of our days at sea & after dinner most of the night! The classes were so organized & inspiring! I found myself discovering new techniques and talents!

Michaels Creative Designers Kathy Kromer & Valerie Studer teaching their classes. Kathy is an AMAZING artist and inspired me to learn to do mixed media with scrapbook paper! Val is extremely talented at paper crafting, painting...ahhhh basically everything she does! Love her style :)

Michaels Creative Designer Anna Bryson teaching a jewelry class. That's what I loved about this event. There were ALL kinds of classes being taught and everyone learned lots with hands on experimenting!

One of the nights they closed down the dance club for us and we had a GLITTER BALL! My photos didn't turn out great cause it was so dark but there was a costume contest and I was BLOWN AWAY at the results! It was incredible and so much fun dancing and singing with our crafty friends :)

Michael Duncan was the HIT of the party! LOTS of great memories made here :)

Overall, it was an incredible experience and I have never been prouder to be part of the DCWV team! The Michaels Crew announced that there will be a weekend craft retreat in Dallas next Spring 2012 and another big crafting cruise in February of 2013. So start saving your money and hopefully I will see you there!

Great Vacation Passport Covers

Hello my friends! Hope you had a great weekend! I just got home late last night from the Michaels Cruise! I can't wait to tell you all about it and show you lots of pictures! But today...it's unpacking, laundry and LOVING on my babies :)

I wanted to share one of the projects that we worked... Great Vacation Monogram Passport Covers.

I love this idea! Why shouldn't your passport be so darling and personable?!

Supplies

Great Vacation Stack

Acrylic Cover

Paper Trimmer

Scissors

Ink Pad

Needles

Matching Thread

Xacto Knife/Mat

Scotch Tape

Instructions

Trim paper to 5 inches x 7 1/4 inches. Fold in half. Hand cut or use cutting system to make on large monogram letter. Ink around edges and adhere to center of the front of the cover. Using the needle, poke holes evenly all around the letter. Use needle and thread to straight stitch around the letter. Tape down loose thread ends. Insert into the acrylic cover. Insert passport.

You shouldn't have to take your passport out of this cover when you go through security, it should be thin enough!

Simply Autumn Fall Wreath Tutorial

Sizzix Fresh Vintage Blog Hop

Well I am STILL on my Michael's Cruise adventure! I hope you are enjoying the posts that I set up while I am away!

I was excited to participate in another Sizzix Blog Hop! I always love seeing what die they send me to work with :) I have quite the collection of Sizzix and I love all of the dies!

They sent me the Scoreboard XL Suitcase to play with. I decided to leave off the little handles and make it a cute little box. And it is the perfect size for some recipe cards! I used the new

Recollections Sugar Plums Stack.

Love that cute little Gingerbread Man!

I glued my patterned paper to the chipboard before I ran it through the machine. Much easier in my opinion. I just used a thin coat of liquid glue and let it really dry.

And if you want the yummy bread recipe, you can find it HERE! This would make a sweet little holiday gift. And seriously, this bread is SO GOOD!!

Jingle Bells Tile Coasters

Hello my friends! Hope you had a great weekend! Right now I am on the Michaels Cruise representing the best paper company in the world...our own DCWV Inc. :)

I wanted to share one of the projects that we are working on... Tile Coasters made from the Recollections Jingle Bell Stack.

These are SO dang cute in person! And super inexpensive and easy to make!

Supplies

Jingle Bells Stack

4x4 Tiles

Felt Pads

Paper Trimmer

Scissors

Mod Podge

Foam Brushes

Clear Spray Paint

Newspaper

Instructions

Cut paper down to 4 inches x 4 inches. If you want to use several patterns of paper, cut down to 1 inch x 4 inch strips. Apply Mod Podge with a foam brush to the entire tile. Make sure you get all the way to the edges. Press your trimmed paper into the tile. Apply pressure to the paper as it dries, smoothing out any bumps of air. Allow to dry. Apply 3 coats of clear spray paint to the tile. Allow to dry. Add felt pads to 4 corners of the bottom of the tile.

These are going to be my neighbor and teacher gifts this holiday season! They are so fun to make and the possibilities are really endless.

Another Friday is here! Are you as happy as I am?? :) Well I am EXTRA happy this Friday because tomorrow is the day that my co-worker, Amy, and I leave for the Michaels Cruise! Today will be busy, busy as I pack and get every last little detail crossed off my list. And there will be LOTS of hugs with my little guys. Usually, my work trips are 5 days at the most. This one is NINE! Gonna take my little brag book with me to show them off to everyone :)

I was lurking around the Michaels website the other day and wondered if all of you knew about all of the project ideas that are on the website? We are constantly creating new projects that can be showcased on their site. If you go to the Michaels website and click on "Projects" at the top, this is what you will see.

On the left hand side, there are lots of different categories that you can look through. You can find lots of ideas with DCWV paper under the Scrapbooking/Off the Page section.

I love how each project has instructions and a supply list to make it easy for you.

I have gotten several emails lately asking if I had any project ideas for some of the new Michaels Recollections Stacks. This is where you can find them! If you get a chance, look around the site and tell me what you think! Are there any types of projects that you would like to see more of??

I leave tomorrow and I have the blog posting throughout my trip showing you some of the projects that we will be working on the ship. I wish ALL of you could be there with us :)

Snowflake Ornament Tutorial

Hey, hey, hey! Did everyone have a great weekend?? I sure hope so! We didn't do anything over the top...spent time with friends and watched A LOT of football. Basically it :) I am ready to hit this week in full force! So much to do before I leave town on Saturday for the Michaels Cruise...need to get caught up on a lot of things PLUS get my family situated for me to be away for 9 days! Midnight Magic Poison Bottles + a Giveaway!

Another Friday is here! Are they flying by for you as quickly as they are for me?? Fall is in full swing and I am loving it!

I am hoping to have a video for y'all next week showing you the new releases that are coming to Jo-Ann's in a couple of weeks! Their Christmas & Winter lines are almost here! Plus some new non-seasonal goodies....3 AWESOME 180 sheet stacks and some stacks with some new textures that you have never seen from us before. I'm going to be at the office on Monday and keeping my fingers crossed I can get my hands on everything so I can make a complete "sneak peek" :)

Wanted to share another great Halloween idea that you can use in your home. I used the Recollections Midnight Magic Stack from Michaels. There are also a couple die cut stacks that match this line which I used as well.

All of the jars are from Michaels as well. All I did was wrap a strip of paper around the middle of the jar, add the poison label and tie some ribbon around the top! They are so cute displayed in a cluster.

Love the colors in this stack!

New Class at Michaels!

Hey guys! Having a good week?? Sure hope you are! Things are going great on my end...just staying busy, getting last minute details taken care of for our Michaels Cruise next week! Sure excited for that :) Starting to work on CHA booth ideas and projects. It will be here before we know it...especially with the holidays coming up :) Life around here is good!

When I saw these photos, I KNEW that I had to share them with y'all!! They are so dang cute!

Michaels is offering a new class called Altered Canvas Trio. Basically, you get to use your creativity and create paper art that can be displayed on canvas for your home!

This is an example of what you can do in the class, using our new Paper Dolls Stack. I love the detail that Michaels Instructor Mary Bordeaux used. Wouldn't this look so cute in a little girls room?!

Stop by your local Michaels Store to find out when they are offering the Altered Canvas Trio Class to create a paper crafted masterpiece on canvas! And with the holidays right around the corner, these would make an incredible, personalized gift.

Angular Cone Ornament Tutorial

Hello again! And Happy Columbus Day! My hubby is a banker so I am using this as a good day to get lots and lots done while he entertains the 4 year old and does laundry :) Yippee!!

My 1st grader was sure impressed by learning about Columbus last week at school. He asked me "Do you think Columbus was scared or excited or both when he went out on his boat?" Love watching him learn new things and really put thought into history! So cute :)

Well I think I only have 1 more ornament tutorial after this one! LMK if you were waiting for one that you didn't see. I have loved getting your feedback from these and am so glad it has inspired you to mix in a few handmade ornaments to your tree this year :)

This is a great general template to have on hand! You could use this cone for a number of different things. These are so cute filled with little treats or candy and on top of a present. You could really embellish them and make them fancy :)

Midnight Magic "Boo" Frames

Happy Friday!

Another week has come and gone! We are starting to really see fall and winter here in Utah...we had snow here yesterday! Luckily, it melted pretty quick :) Last night, we headed down to the local pumpkin patch to get our pumpkins and gourds for the season.

I love my little guy's new smile now that he has lost his tooth! And his necklaces crack me up too....(1) Tooth Necklace which he stores his tooth in, lol. (2) His medal from joining the "100 Book Club" at school. He read 100 books in his first month of 1st grade! Proud little guy :)

Anyway, he had a lot of fun enjoying the cool weather and getting ready for fall!

I am pretty much in love with today's project! It is sooo easy, affordable and DARLING! I used the new stack at Michaels, "Midnight Magic".

Love these colors...blue and purple mixed in with the classic orange and black.

I purchased cheap gold frames from the local superstore for $3 a piece and I spray painted them black. I framed the 4x6 print then glued the inked orange letters on top of the glass. Added some rhinestones and ribbon bows and that was it!

I think I may have to make a few sets of these for my friends with October birthdays! They will love them :) Aren't they darling??

Well it's that time of the month again.

I love the colors of this stack! I used some photos of my little guys first tooth that he just lost. I used solid color patterned papers from the stack. I just love how bright and fun they are.

Another great layout to use some scraps or those matstacks!

I seriously can't get enough of my little boys! They are sooooo cute :)

Handmade Paper Stocking Tutorial

Hello!!

Did everyone have a great weekend?? I had one of the best ones in a long time! Celebrated my husband's birthday and had lots of family time. Oh and my football team won at the last second with a catch right in front of me. SO exciting :) But yes, overall it was a great couple of days! Ready for pretty quiet week where I can get lots and lots accomplished! Wish me luck ;)

I have another holiday tutorial which is lots of fun! I still have a few more ornaments that I will finish tutorials for but I wanted to share the paper stocking that we had hanging on our mantel at CHA.

I think these paper stockings are SO cute! And you could really have fun with them making them for gift packaging or for decorations.

Christmas Accent Trims

Happy Tuesday! So excited to show you these projects today! I seriously think the fall & Christmas holidays are the best times to be a crafter! So many fun ideas for home decor and especially gifts. I think you will get lots and lots of ideas here at the blog in the next couple months!

Today's projects are super, super easy because of one thing...the new Christmas Accent Trims! They are so easy to work with! I love the texture of them, how they are self adhesive and the patterns are adorable. These really are perfect for altering items because the adhesive is workable...basically the first time you lay it down you can lift it up and move it around. When you are ready for a permanent hold, just firmly run your fingers over it to really get it to stick and it's not going anywhere :)

This is a $2 frame from M's and I simply wrapped the trim around the frame. Super easy and quick! Finished off with a bow.

This is an empty Pringles can emptied out and wrapped with the trim. You can fill it with cookies or other holiday treats. Wrap with a pretty bow.

I love how easy these projects are because you don't have to worry or mess with any adhesive! Gotta love that!! Hopefully these projects sparked a little creativity inside of you!

Hey, hey, hey! Can't believe it's Monday again! I hope you had a great weekend!! Lots of you must have been scrapping since I received LOTS of Stack-a-holic Template Challenge entries over the weekend! They are looking fabulous! You have until Thursday at midnight and I will post the winners sometime on Friday! So those who want to play and haven't submitted a page yet, you have a few days left!

I just wrote down all of the things that I have coming up for the blog and I am so excited for the next few weeks!! Lots of fun surprises!! That's what I love about working for DCWV, there is ALWAYS something new and exciting coming :) Get ready!!

I love this modern ornament! They are so easy and you can easily add some great color into your tree. Here is a great tutorial and you don't even need a template :)
