Tutorial: Tropical Bead Flowers

Hey everyone! So have you noticed that on the last 3 Wednesday's, I have been posting tutorials of projects from our CHA booth? I'm seeing a little trend here ;) I hope you are enjoying them! So many people worked so hard on creations that were displayed in our booth. We love that you want to learn how to make them too!!

Today's tutorial is on these cool beaded flowers. They even look like star fish to me :)

Here is a closer look. I can't believe how gorgeous our Blue Moon Beads are! They look like little pieces of art. 

Tropical Bead Flower

Supplies & Tools

·      BLUE MOON BEADS: IVORY SHELL BEADS, BROWN SHELL LEAF BEADS, CHAMPAGNE-COLORED SEED BEADS, 10MM ROUND NATURAL PINK BEADS, MEDIUM ROUND CHAMPAGNE SWIRL BEADS, 1 1/2" FLAT ROUND PENNANT, 2 1/2" CLEAR GLASS LEAF PENNANT, ASSORTED NATURAL-COLORED BEADS

*NOTE: ROUND PENNANT NEEDS TO HAVE HOLES IN IT SO THAT WIRE CAN BE WEAVED THROUGH AVAILABLE SPACES

·      32 GAUGE BEADING WIRE

·      BEADING PLIERS

Directions

1.    REMOVE 5 SHELL LEAF BEADS AND 5 IVORY SHELL BEADS FROM THEIR STRANDS. REMOVE 5 MEDIUM ROUND CHAMPAIGN SWIRL AND 6 NATURAL PINK BEADS FROM THEIR STRANDS AS WELL.

2.    BEGINNING WITH A LONG SECTION OF WIRE, WEAVE IN AND OUT ONCE AROUND ONE SECTION OF THE ROUND PENNANT, LEAVING BOTH ENDS ON THE TOP.  THREAD ON A LEAF BEAD AND REWRAP AROUND THE ROUND PENNANT.  THREAD ON 5 SEED BEADS, A PINK BEAD, 4 SEED BEADS, THREAD BACK THROUGH THE PINK BEAD, AND ADD 5 MORE SEED BEADS.  THREAD BACK DOWN THROUGH THE ROUND DISK ON THE BOTTOM AND BACK UP. 

3.    CONTINUE THE ABOVE PROCESS, ADDING MORE SHELL BEADS, SEED BEADS, ROUND BEADS, CLEAR SPACER BEADS, ETC. UNTIL YOU’VE MADE A ROUND ARRANGEMENT AROUND THE TOP OF THE DISK. 

4.    FINISH OFF THE FLOWER BY ATTACHING A LARGE GLASS LEAF PENNANT TO THE BOTTOM WITH WIRE.

Welcome to another Monday! We are happy around our house because it's SPRING BREAK! Even though we woke up to hail and snow! But the rest of the week is supposed to be nice so I guess it's not too bad ;)

Did anyone else see Hunger Games this weekend?? Oh man. I have never been to such an intense movie! I loved the books but not sure if I would have liked the movie if I had not read the book. I think it may have been too much for me to not have warning about the story line! But hubby & I loved it and are seeing it again tomorrow night :) If you saw it, what did you think?!

Today I have some bright, cheery layouts to show you! They are both amazing!! 

This one was created using Teenage Dream Stack. It is perfect for the "tweens" in your life and even for your summer photos! Those flowers are so fun, would be great on a card too!

I love all of the little details in these pages. Just when you think you saw it all, something else stands out!

This layout was created with the La Bella Rouge Stack. It reminds me a lot of the popular Street Lace Stack just with some different colors and a few new designs. Love the purple mixed with the leopard print. Animal prints aren't going anywhere!!

Spring Fling Candy Cover

Happy Friday! Another weekend is here. I guess that's a plus when life is so busy...the weekends come fast! And I think I will have a happy little boy running home from the bus stop today. SPRING BREAK! And with record high temps this weekend, we are happy around here!

Just a quick project to show you today using the popular Spring Fling Stack available at Jo-Ann Stores right now. This has become a huge seller and I am not really surprised ;)

I created a quick cover for a box of candy that I picked up. I simply measured the width of the candy box and trimmed my paper down to that size. Wrapped the paper around the candy and adhered it. And then decorated the front with a piece of paper from the Chalkboard Stack and some twine. 

Sent it off to school with my little guy for a special teacher.

So cute for a quick "thank you" or "thinking of you" gift. I am always needing those :)

Good morning! I hope you are enjoying your week, can't believe it's Wednesday already! This week is busy which equals "fllllyyy by" :) But next week is my little guy's {Spring Break} so I kinda don't mind this week moving fast. Can't wait to have him home with me for 9 days and not having to share him. You kinda miss that once they are in school all day! PLUS my baby was registered for Kindergarten yesterday which turns me even more into a Mama Bear who wants to keep her cubs close. Where does time go??! Crazy, crazy!

I have a fun tutorial for you today! This gorgeous birdcage was on display in our CHA booth and it was a huge hit! Wouldn't it be gorgeous as a table centerpiece for spring?? This tutorial is for the wrapped roses which don't need a template and don't need to be cut out perfect!! Love that, right??

Note: In this photo, we used the DCWV Home product Domestic Bliss Decorative Trim in Vintage Wall Roses. You can pick this up at your local Jo-Anns. Instead of using paper, we took two pieces of the contact paper, removed the adhesive and put it back to back and then cut it out. But if you don't have the Decorative Trim, you can definitely use any of your stacks to make this rose with paper. It works just the same! 

Wrapped Roses

Supplies & Tools

·      DCWV 12”X12” STACK

·      6” CIRCLE TEMPLATE

·      1 1/2" CIRCLE PUNCH

·      PAPER CRAFTING ADHESIVE (*RECOMMEND HOT GLUE)

·      SCISSORS

·      PENCIL

Directions

1.    SELECT A PRINT FROM THE DCWV BLACK CURRANT STACK.  TURN THIS OVER TO THE WHITE SIDE AND TRACE A 6” CIRCLE ON THE BACK.  CUT OUT. 

2.    CUT A SPIRAL PATTERN IN YOUR CIRCLE UNTIL YOU REACH THE MIDDLE. PUNCH OUT A 1 1/2" CIRCLE WITH THE PUNCH.

3.    USING THE IMAGE AS A REFERENCE, BEGIN CREATING YOUR FLOWER BY TAKING THE MIDDLE SECTION AND WRAPPING THE PAPER AROUND ITSELF.  CONTINUE WRAPPING UNTIL YOU REACH THE END.  MANIPULATE THE FLOWER (WRAPPING TIGHTER VS. WRAPPING LOOSER) UNTIL YOU REACH YOUR DESIRED LOOK.  ADHERE YOUR FLOWER TO THE CIRCLE PUNCH.

4.    REPEAT AS NEEDED.

Oooh, another Monday. I can handle Monday after having a wonderful 3 day weekend in Vegas! Yes, yes, I survived a girls trip to Vegas :) Me, my mama, sister & family friend needed a little getaway. Lots of yummy, fancy meals. French Macaroons. Cirque Du Soleil fabulous-ness :) I can for sure handle Monday after a weekend like that ;)

I have 2 gorgeous layouts to show you that use the Serenity Stack! You should be able to find this stack at Jo-Ann Stores right now. I love the copper foil that is on these pages. It really is a great stack to have in your collection for when you really want your photos to pop off of the page. Check these layouts out! 

Love the dandilions, butterflies and flowers. It really is "serene" :)

And this layout shows a few of the pages that have a beautiful purple foil accent on them. It's a deep purple which is so pretty! This layout also uses the shimmer cardstock which is in the matching Serene Cardstock Stack. Can you see how pretty the hearts are in that specialty paper?

Beautiful! This picture really captures that shimmer well.

Spring Fling Plaque

Tell me what you are up to! I will let you know what I am up to on Monday ;) But I know it's going to be a fun, fun weekend :)

As you have probably guessed, I am loving the new Spring Fling line which is at Jo-Ann Stores right now! The whole stack just screams SPRING and HAPPINESS to me! I love it when I see a stack and I instantly know that I want to use it for seasonal home decor decorations in my house. I have lots of spring pretties lining my shelves and tables. And I knew I wanted to create something with this stack to display. 

Here is my spring wood plaque! I painted my scrap wood piece with celery colored spray paint. Well my sweet hubby did ;) I glued down a piece of paper for my background.

To make my flower petals: I cut a 2 inch x 6 inch long piece of patterned paper and folded it in half lengthwise. Hot glued the ends to make a petal. Make sure you glue the petals on so that the folded end is facing up so you have a nice, clean edge. I glued the petals down to make a flower and glued a accordion circle on top.

Added a button and a few cut out sayings from the stack and there you have it! Super simple and it looks so cute on the table! These pictures really don't do it justice. Much cuter in real life along with every other craft, right? ;)

Tutorial: Beaded Butterflies

Hello!! Thanks for stopping by the blog! Today is a quiet day in the office for me. And I may or may not be working in my jammies ;) Doesn't happen too often but when I don't have to leave my house other than to get a Diet Coke at the gas station, it's pretty tempting! I am working on a fun, spring home decor piece for the blog on Friday. It's turning out so cute! Can't wait to show you :) 

I am back today with another tutorial from our CHA booth. Remember this gorgeous tree covered in butterflies, beads & jewelry? 

There were some gorgeous beaded butterflies mixed into the tree. I think these would be so fun and easy to make and mix into your spring & Easter decorations. You could use any color paper and really customize them to your space.

Supplies & Tools

·      DCWV BRIGHTS CARDSTOCK STACK

·      DCWV BUTTERFLY TEMPLATE

·      BLUE MOON BEADS: BLUE GLASS BEADS

·      PAPERCRAFTING ADHESIVE

·      CRAFT WIRE

·      BEAD PLIERS

·      SCISSORS

·      PENCIL

Directions

1.    PRINT AND CUT OUT THE BUTTERFLY TEMPLATE.  TRACE DESIRED SIZES ONTO YOUR CHOSEN SHADES OF CARDSTOCK AND CUT THEM OUT. *NOTE: FOR EVERY SMALL BUTTERFLY, YOU WILL NEED A LARGE ONE (AND VISE VERSA).

 

2.    ADHERE THE BODY OF ONE SMALL BUTTERFLY ONTO THE BODY OF A LARGER ONE; REPEAT UNTIL YOU’VE GLUED YOUR BUTTERFLIES TOGETHER. 

3.    STRING BEADS ONTO YOUR CRAFT WIRE AND ATTACH THEM TO THE BODY OF THE BUTTERFLY.  REPEAT UNTIL FINISHED.

I know the template doesn't include the intricate butterfly piece on the top layer. You could use a electronic cutting machine for that, use your Xacto knife to make your own pattern or simply just use a full wing piece on top. It is still a beautiful, creative element!
