Today is a special day on the blog! Joining us are some of our favorite people—friends, fans, and loyal followers of DCWV—from Scrapbooks Etc. magazine!
Scrapbooks Etc., was first released in 1999 as part of the Better Homes and Gardens publications. It began as a special issue and quickly progressed to a stand-alone, bimonthly publication and official website. Scrapbooks Etc., has evolved with the changes in the industry, moving from scrapbooking and cardmaking to paper crafting projects to further inspire readers. The Scrapbooks Etc., staff shared that their first issue included tips on how to “be generous with film” and reproduce photographs on a color copier. A highlight of a hand-lettered font also graced the inaugural issue. Today’s issues include articles that expand on those early principles and inspire crafters to take their projects to new levels. The magazine’s pages are rich with tips on how to utilize your crafting space and how to incorporate everyday items like baker’s twine and paper towels into your crafting projects. Whether you came to the magazine as a novice or a pro, there were always boundaries to challenge and exciting, little gems to discover.
When we received the news that our ad would appear in the last edition of Scrapbooks Etc., it was a sad day. But even though we’ll no longer find issues in our mailboxes or on our local craft store’s shelves, we move forward with the robust library of ideas and inspiration that Scrapbooks Etc., left behind.
We do have some good news: As a follow-up to Scrapbooks Etc., the team at Better Homes and Gardens will be producing Make it Yourself—a multi-craft publication that we can’t wait to get our hands on! Look for it on shelves October 2nd.
Now, for the best news of the day—a giveaway! In conjunction with our final Scrapbooks Etc., ad and because we love our blogging world friends, we wanted to offer a summer giveaway to Scrapbooks Etc., readers. Between today and next Monday (7/16), please leave a comment on the Better Homes and Gardens Facebook page, letting them know we sent you. Once you’ve been there, leave a comment here on the blog. Glad to hear that a new, more encompassing publication will be replacing it though. Looking forward to seeing what they bring to the crafting table! ReplyDeleteI am really going to miss Scrapbooks, Etc. It is too bad that they went out the way that they did (no real notification to the subscribers). For all of those wondering about their subscription, when I tried to cancel my subscription I was told that they are switching them over to Better Homes and Gardens magazine and would have to wait until I receive my first issue and then contact them again. I really hope that they reconsider and switch them to the new Make It Yourself magazine. I am really disappointed in the way that this has all been handled.

ReplyDeleteI let BHG know how sad I was that Scrapbooks etc was no longer being published. I hope that Make it Youself still has scrap booking ideas.

ReplyDeleteYes, I, too, will miss Scrapbooks, Etc. I have been a subscriber for several years and before that I bought it at the store. It is really an awesome publication. Oh, I hopped on over to the BHG page on FB and said that DCWV sent me!

I am very sad to hear this news. This is one of my favorite magazines. I will miss this publication. I have a subscription until April 2015 or rather I had a subscription. After reading your blog post, I pulled my edition and noticed in the note from the editor a PS telling everyone that the August 2012 issue is the last issue, wow really just a "PS", what a rip off. I will be going not only to the Better Homes and Garden FB page but to their customer service email to ask for a refund!!! Thanks the giveaway and for sharing the news since the folks at Better Homes and Gardens didn't really bother to let their subscribers know!!!.

ReplyDeleteLast year I bought a FOUR YEAR subscription to SBE, after my current year had run out. So, I can't express enough just how sad I am to see them go. I'm hoping they keep the SBE site maintained and updated for years to come. It will fill the small hole I'll have from the missing magazine :(
