Hey guys! Thank you for all of your birthday wishes! You are too sweet to me :) I had a great day and weekend and I believe you when you tell me that 30 is just the beginning!
I wanted to show you another gift idea that you could make for friends or loved ones this holiday. I used the Whimsy Stack which has been around for a couple of years. I love how we are DCWV are always ahead of the trend because 2 years later, this stack is right on with other lines that are out there!
The colors in the Whimsy Stack are gorgeous and I love the little owls, bunnies and birds.
First off, I covered the lid of a Altoids box. You could use an empty mint container and paint the outside of it to cover up the packaging. Or you can buy empty ones HERE. I used Mod Podge to glue down the paper, inked the edges and then applied another coat of Mod Podge.
When you open up the box you have 3 little coordinating magnets. I covered old game pieces or you can use some cut down wood scraps. I applied the paper to the game pieces in the same process as the cover. Mod Podge, ink, Mod Podge.
Added a magnet to the back of and there you have it! They are fun because the stick to the inside of the tin. You could easily tie a ribbon around the container and add a little tag.
I will be making a few sets of these for some neighbors but I think I will use some of our new Christmas papers. What do ya think?

I have way too many tins of all sorts - now you have shown me exactly how to do the tops. Love the magnets too, but wouldn't it be fun to do up some 1" strips of paper and cover candy to match the outside ? And thankyou for having 8x8 pads - much more cardmaker-friendly !

This is a great idea Erin! I think it would be great with Christmas paper, but I like it with just this Whimsy paper to use year round. I am struggling to come up with gifts that are not Christmasy - you know, so that they can be used year round and not just at Christmas.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! However, I've got a question. It seems like every time I use Mod Podge, it seems to be sticky no matter how long I let it dry. For example, I've got a trunk that I decoupaged about 4 years ago and things still stick to the top of it. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening? Thanks!

ReplyDeleteVery cute! And I actually really love that the paper isn't all over the sides of the tin. I've tried that and while it looks nice, it's a serious pain to do. This looks great with just the lid covered!

I also believe a gift card would fit in these boxes so you could give one of these with the magnets and also a gift card for their favorite store! Great project! I love this idea!! I love it so much it is one of the gifts I'm giving away for christmas this year. Too many family members to buy everyone something and since we haven't won the lottery yet it makes it a little hard to LOL. ReplyDeleteI think it would be fun to put a tic tak toe "board" in the top of the lid and then make small round magnets by adhering magnets to small flat bottomed glass domes for the game pieces and store those inside!!!
